According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Botox is the most popular non-surgical treatment, the treatment of choice by over 7 million people in the United States. But what do we really know about this popular treatment?
Botox is a brand name for a cosmetic injectable neuromodulator. It is a very diluted form of Botulinum Toxin found in the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. Other brand names include Dysport or Xenomin. Injecting the diluted product in small amounts will relax your muscles by temporarily blocking nerve signals to the muscle. Without the nerve signal, the muscle cannot contract or move. Wrinkles that usually form with these muscle movements are minimized or go away completely.
