How is Tummy Tuck surgery performed?
Tummy tuck surgery is a major surgical procedure that is performed in Dr. Maffi’s fully accredited outpatient surgical center under light general anesthesia; administered by a board certified anesthesiologist who specializes in plastic surgery procedures.
After creating the surgical incisions, Dr. Maffi separates the skin from the underlying fat and muscles and removes any localized fat deposits. He also tightens the abdominal muscles (rectus muscles), which are often stretched after childbearing or weight loss. The muscles are stitched into a new, tighter position and excess skin is removed. The remaining skin is draped over the abdomen and sutured in place.
Depending on the extent of the procedure and whether it is being combined with other body sculpting treatments, the surgery may last up to three hours or longer. Tummy tuck may be performed simultaneously with other procedures such as liposuction, arm lift, or thigh lift surgery.
Dr. Maffi and his staff want patients to look great after surgery, so in an effort to deliver head to toe care, each tummy tuck patient receives a complimentary skin care treatment and a full line of medical-grade skin care products. Call today to schedule a consultation with Dr. Maffi to discuss a tummy tuck at 480.505.6430.
Who is a good candidate for Tummy Tuck surgery?
The ideal candidates for tummy tuck surgery are men and women who are in good general health and are relatively fit. The procedure is also an excellent treatment option for older patients whose abdominal skin is droopy due to age-related loss of skin elasticity.
Individuals who are planning on having children or losing large amounts of weight are advised to postpone tummy tuck surgery because the abdominal muscles may stretch again after these significant physical changes. For patients who have had one or more pregnancies or have lost weight, tummy tuck surgery can often be combined with liposuction and lower body lift for optimal results. To schedule a consultation with Dr. Maffi, please give us a call at 480.505.6430. We look forward to the opportunity to meet you.
What is the recovery for a Tummy Tuck?
Because tummy tuck surgery is a complex procedure, patients may be asked to stay overnight at the surgical facility. Our facility has private casitas in which patients may choose to recover. In the following days, patients will experience swelling, bruising and discomfort in the treatment area, which can be relieved with pain medication.
Dr. Maffi also supplies patients with a complete vitamin and supplement program to encourage healing and optimal results. Tummy tuck surgery requires up to 3 weeks of recovery; however, most patients may return to work and resume light activities within 7-10 days. A support garment is worn around the abdomen to reduce swelling. Surgical drains are also placed to assist in fluid drainage.
Dr. Maffi provides each patient with detailed instructions on how to care for their incisions and drains until they are removed, which usually happens just a few days after surgery. Heavy lifting and strenuous physical activity should be avoided for several weeks. Have additional questions? Give Maffi Surgery Clinic a call at 480.505.6430.
How is Liposuction performed?
As a “spot-reduction” procedure, liposuction is a fairly simple treatment. Dr. Maffi begins liposuction by creating small incisions. The number and size of the incisions may vary depending on the amount of fat to be removed and the size of the treatment area. Liposuction surgery is performed at his fully accredited outpatient surgical center and the light general anesthesia is delivered by board certified anesthesiologists who specialize in plastic surgery.
During the procedure, Dr. Maffi infuses a specific amount of fluid under the skin to minimize blood loss. During ultrasound liposuction, a special cannula (a hollow tube) is used, which emits sound waves to break up the fat. Once this is accomplished, a liposuction cannula is used to extract the fat cells from under the skin. Finally, the incisions are closed and the treatment area is wrapped in surgical dressings. The length of the liposuction procedure will vary as it may be combined with other treatments such as thigh lift, arm lift or tummy tuck. Interested in a personalize consultation? Who is a good candidate for Liposuction surgery?
The best candidates for liposuction surgery are healthy men and women who are not extremely overweight, but are concerned with localized fat deposits affecting specific areas of the body.
It is important to mention that, contrary to common belief, liposuction is not a weight loss procedure. Rather, this treatment helps slim and sculpt certain body areas for a more aesthetically pleasing physique. Individual skin characteristics are an important factor; for example, older patients who have reduced skin elasticity may not attain results that are achievable in younger patients. Dr. Maffi will help you form realistic expectations after closely examining your body. Schedule your consultation today by calling 480.505.6430.
What is the recovery time for Liposuction?
After liposuction, the treated areas will be swollen and bruised. Mild discomfort is likely for a few days, but can be treated with pain medication. Patients are also provided with a complete vitamin and supplement program to encourage healing and optimal results.
Dr. Maffi will provide specific instructions on how to care for your incisions, and will supply you with antibiotics to reduce the possibility of infection. The treatment area will be wrapped in surgical garments, which protect the area and help with skin retraction after the procedure. The garments may be worn for several days or weeks, as recommended by Dr. Maffi. Patients are usually able to return to work within 5-7 days.
Private casitas are available at the surgical facility in which patients may choose to recover. The final results may not be visible for up to 3 months or longer. Maintaining your ideal weight during recovery and thereafter is essential for long-lasting liposuction results. How is an Arm Lift performed?
Arm lift surgery is performed at our fully accredited outpatient surgical center under light general anesthesia, which is administered by board certified anesthesiologists who specialize in plastic surgery. The surgery may last from 1-3 hours depending on how much fat and skin is being removed. The procedure may also take longer if it is performed simultaneously with other body contouring procedures such as tummy tuck.
Dr. Maffi starts arm lift surgery by creating incisions that extend from the underarm to just above the elbow. Patients with mildly redundant skin and not much fat may only require small incisions in the lower part of the armpit. This procedure is also known as minimal incision arm lift surgery. After creating the incisions, Dr. Maffi uses liposuction to break up and remove excess fat. The excess skin is them trimmed and the rest is tightened and sutured in place.
At Maffi, all patients are provided with head to toe treatments. Dr. Maffi and his staff offer all body contouring patients a complimentary skin care treatment and a full line of medical-grade skin care products, so they can look their best after surgery. How is Body Lift surgery performed?
Body lift surgery is performed at Dr. Maffi’s fully accredited surgical center under general anesthesia, which is administered by board certified anesthesiologists who specialize in plastic surgery.
The surgery starts with a belt-like incision just above the thighs and buttocks. The skin is separated from the underlying tissue, and redundant skin is removed. An additional incision may be made along the pubic area if Dr. Maffi incorporates a tummy tuckinto the treatment plan. During tummy tuck, Dr. Maffi tightens the abdominal muscles and may remove excess fatty tissue, sometimes with liposuction. The skin that remains is then tightened and sutured in place.

Who is a good candidate for Body Lift surgery?
Body lift surgery is suitable for anyone who is unsatisfied with the shape of their buttocks, tummy, lower back and thighs.
While some people are able to improve the appearance of these areas with diet and exercise, for many, localized fat deposits, loose skin and cellulite are next to impossible to eliminate without surgical intervention. This is often the case in patients who have lost a lot of weight, or with new mothers who are struggling to restore their figures after having one or more children. Lower body lift candidates must be in good general health.
Those planning to lose a significant amount of weight or have more children should consider postponing the procedure. Dr. Maffi is an premier plastic surgeon and will help you determine whether a lower body lift is right for you. Call 480.505.6430 to schedule a consultation today!

Is Liposuction a good option for me?
For certain individuals, diet and exercise will never get rid of stubborn pockets of fat. If you are in good general health and have a positive attitude and realistic expectations, you are most likely a good candidate for this procedure. After recovery from surgery, your body contour will appear smoother and slimmer. If you are planning to lose a significant amount of weight or even gain weight (for example, due to pregnancy), this is not the time to undergo liposuction. Also, keep in mind that liposuction does not remove cellulite and cannot tighten loose skin. To learn more, schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Maffi today to discuss your goals.
