How is Breast Reduction surgery performed?
Breast reduction surgery involves the removal of excess breast tissue and skin. In order to accomplish this, Dr. Maffi makes a “lollipop” incision, which starts around the areola and extends vertically down to the fold of the breast. This allows him to trim excess tissue and lift the breasts to a higher position on the chest.
In most cases, the nipples remain attached to the breast, but are moved up. In patients with very large breasts, nipple surgery may be performed in conjunction with breast reduction in order to reduce the size of the areolas. Lastly, the incisions are closed with sutures and surgical garments are placed around the upper chest.
Breast reduction surgery is performed at our fully accredited outpatient surgery center under light general anesthesia, which is administered by board certified anesthesiologists who specialize in plastic surgery. The procedure is typically combined with a breast lift technique. The operation may take several hours.
At Maffi, our patients are treated from head to toe. For this reason, we provide complimentary skin care treatments and a full line of medical-grade skin care products to help your face look its best after surgery. Interested in learning more? Call 480.505.6430 today!
Who is a good candidate for Breast Reduction surgery?
The most appropriate candidates for breast reduction surgery are healthy women who are experiencing physical discomfort and/or emotional distress due to abnormally large breasts.
However, it is important to note that breast reduction surgery candidates should not be extremely overweight because weight gain and loss can affect the size of the breasts. Breast reduction surgery can also be performed on men who suffer from a condition known as gynecomastia (enlarged male breasts). A consultation with Dr. Maffi will help you determine whether you are a good candidate for breast reduction surgery. When you’re ready, give us a call at 480.505.6430. We look forward to the opportunity to meet you.
What is the recovery time for Breast Reduction surgery?
Of all breast enhancement procedures, breast reduction is among the most complex and requires a longer recovery.
Immediately following surgery, the breasts will be wrapped in bandages and in rare cases, surgical drains may be placed. Mild discomfort will be present, but can easily be treated with pain medication. Patients also receive a complete vitamin and supplement program to encourage healing and optimal results. Swelling, bruising and soreness may last for several weeks. You may also experience sensation changes to the nipples that may last up to 6 months or longer. Patients are generally able to return to work within 2 weeks.
Some patients may choose to recover in one of our private casitas located at the surgical facility. Strenuous physical activity is not recommended for at least 6-8 weeks. Dr. Maffi may also ask you to wear a post-surgical bra for an extended period of time to support the breasts as they heal. Routine follow-up exams and postoperative care are essential to your recovery. Interested in a personalize consultation? Contact Maffi Surgery Clinic today 480.505.6430.
How is a Breast Revision surgery performed?
The surgical approach and techniques used during breast revision surgery depend on the nature of the patient’s aesthetic concerns.
When performed for purely cosmetic reasons, breast revision can be a very simple procedure that takes 1-2 hours. However, if treating complications, the surgery may last up to 4 hours. Because there is no one-size-fits-all breast revision surgery, Dr. Maffi drafts a customized treatment plan for each breast revision patient after closely assessing the patient’s concerns, the anatomy of the breasts, tissue availability and the patient’s candidacy for breast revision surgery.
Breast revision surgery is performed at Dr. Maffi’s fully accredited outpatient surgical facility under light general anesthesia, administered by board-certified anesthesiologists who specialize in plastic surgery. To prevent additional scarring, whenever possible, Dr. Maffi will create the surgical incisions at the previous site.
In order to treat our patients to a full range of services, you will also receive a complimentary skin care treatment and a full line of medical-grade skin care products, so you can feel and look great after surgery. If you have additional questions, give us a call at 480.505.6430.
Who is a good candidate for Breast Revision surgery?
The best candidates for breast revision are patients who are unsatisfied with the look and feel of their breasts for any reason following breast augmentation surgery, and those who are experiencing complications.
Due to many factors involved in breast revision surgery, Dr. Maffi carefully screens each patient to determine whether she qualifies for breast revision. Breast revision patients who are undergoing the procedure for purely cosmetic reasons must be in good general health and have realistic expectations. For those experiencing complications, breast revision is often not a choice, but a necessary procedure. To schedule a consultation with Dr. Maffi, give us a call at 480.505.6430. Patients are able to return to work and normal activities in 7-10 days and full recovery is achieved in about 4 weeks. Private casitas are available at the surgical facility in which patients may choose to recover. Dr. Maffi is sensitive to the needs of his breast revision patients and will closely monitor their recovery progress to ensure a safe and successful outcome. How is Breast Lift surgery performed?

Once the incisions are created, Dr. Maffi removes the excess breast skin and redundant breast tissue and repositions the nipple and areola to a higher position.
The most common breast lift types include:

Who is a good candidate for Breast Lift surgery?
Pregnancy and weight loss contribute to breast ptosis or sagging breast, and patients who are planning on having children or losing a significant amount of weight should consider postponing breast lift surgery until after they have achieved these goals.
In general, the best breast lift candidates are healthy women who want to restore the shape and position of their breasts. It is also important to note that while breasts of any size can be lifted, the results may not last as long in women who have heavy breasts.
